Chapter 21

Book of Revelation

1

KJV:  And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

There is only one earth.

“no more sea” means no more abyss.

2 Peter 3:13

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Revelation 21:5 (New International Version)

5He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."

Luke 16:17 (New International Version)

It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.

Luke 20:34-38 (New International Version)

34Jesus replied, "The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. 35But those who are considered worthy of taking part in that age and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, 36and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God's children, since they are children of the resurrection. 37But in the account of the bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord 'the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' 38He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive." (NIV)

Mark 12:24-27 (New International Version)

24Jesus replied, "Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 26Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? 27He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!" (NIV)

2

KJV:  And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Jerusalem was the city where Jesus last preached at King Herod’s temple mount.  It was a city of 30,000 except preceding Jesus’ arrest at Passover there would have been about 300,000 pilgrims in the city.  Only Jews were allowed to enter the temple mount.  Jesus performed miracles near the temple and many were converted.

“coming down from God out of heaven” means God’s plan and will.

“prepared as a bride adorned for her husband” means they have been washed clean of their sins and are wearing white.

“Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”- Colossians 3:12 (NIV)

 (NIV)

2 Corinthians 11:2

I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to

Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.

Like Mile, Keith’s wife from Thailand, I had only possessed a few personal belongings when I came back from my missionary journey in England. However, I was not ready to give my body as a living sacrifice to David.  Roman Staffing was my last employer in Indiana. While I worked for them I came across Romans 12:1-2 and then the 7-year plan Dave told Stacey about began to add up:

Romans 12 (King James Version)

1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

3

KJV:  And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

“the tabernacle of God is with men” means:

John 4:21-24

[21] Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
[22] Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
[23] But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
[24] God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

 (NIV)

4

KJV:  And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

The death referred to above would be spiritual death or the “second death.”

God will wipe your tears away and all the old things will pass away and there will be a new beginning.

5

KJV:  And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

God is on the throne.

Matthew 19:28 (New International Version)

28Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Isaiah 65:17-25

New Heavens and a New Earth

17 "Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. 18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. 19 I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more. 20 "Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth; he who fails to reach [a] a hundred will be considered accursed. 21 They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22 No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. 23 They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the LORD, they and their descendants with them. 24 Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. 25 The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent's food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain," says the LORD. (NIV)

“true and faithful”: the same character elements of the rider on the white horse from Rev. 19:11.

6

KJV:  And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

John 4:10-14

[10] Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
[11] The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
[12] Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
[13] Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
[14] But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

7

KJV:  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

“overcometh”:  http://www.thefreedictionary.com/overcome

“inherit” eternal life

 (NIV)

8

KJV:  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

9

KJV:  And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.

Laodicea, Chuck Kellerman, published this Revelation on the Internet.  I sent him a USB data drive that is similar in size to a vial.

Who is the Lamb’s wife?  People have told me we can all be brides of Christ.

10

KJV:  And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,

11

KJV:  Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;

Ephesians 5:13-27

[13] But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
[14] Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

“her light” means this woman is one of the lampstands in Revelation chapter 11.  By the glory of God, Jesus is her light (see Rev. 21:23).

Matt.5

[14] Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

“clear as crystal”: see Rev. 22:1

12

KJV:  And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:

On each gate are written each name of the twelve tribes of God’s children Israel:

13

KJV:  On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.

Rev. 21:21 reads, “every several gate”

There are three doors.  From each direction of the compass, there are three doors.  Three doors times four directions = 12.

Coincidence:  Sherwood Lake Apartments has 3 gates into their community. One guard gate on the East side entrance and 2 side gates on the North side entrances.  No matter what direction you are traveling, there are three gates. Four points on the compass times 3 gates = 12 gates.

14

KJV:  And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

On each foundation are written each name of the twelve apostles of Jesus:

1.       Andrew

2.       Bartholomew (Nathanael)

3.       James, son of Alphaeus

4.       James, son of Zebedee

5.       John

6.       Judas (who betrayed Jesus)

7.       Lebbaeus (Thaddaeus)

8.       Matthew

9.       Philip

10.   Simon the Canaanite

11.   Simon Peter

12.   Thomas

15

KJV:  And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.

A measuring device to measure the city, the gates and the wall.

 (NIV)

16

KJV:  And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.

four·square  (fôrskwâr, fr-)

adj.

1. Having four equal sides and four right angles; square.

2. Marked by firm, unwavering conviction or expression; forthright: a foursquare refusal to yield.

adv.

In a forthright manner; squarely.

“furlongs” really means stadia from the older Greek text:

In common with most other translations of the period, the New Testament was translated from the Textus Receptus (Received Text) series of the Greek texts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Textus_Receptus

A stadia is 630 ft. (see Rev. 14:20) to show how God’s people on the Earth are being harvested (outside the city).

http://mysite.du.edu/~jcalvert/astro/stadia.htm

http://www.greekbible.com/index.php

The length and the width and the height are 12,000 furlongs each, therefore:

12,000 stadia x 12,000 stadia x 12,000 stadia

Convert stadia to feet:

12,000 stadia x 630 ft. = 7,560,000 ft.

12,000 stadia = 7,560,000 ft.

To convert to square miles, divide by 5,280 ft. (1 mile = 5,280 sq.ft.)

7,560,000 ft. / 5,280 ft = 1431.8

Compute cubic square miles:   http://www.onlineconversion.com/faq_01.htm :

1431.8 x 1431.8 = 2,050,051 sq. mi.

2,050,051 square miles

Jerusalem is 49 square miles

Israel is 8,109 – 8,522 square miles

America is 3,793,079 square miles

2,050,051 square miles does not equal Jerusalem or anything that would match the symbolism of the city of New Jerusalem, therefore, the number 12,000 stadia is symbolic.  Stadia is an Greek word that means stadium:  http://www.thefreedictionary.com/stadia

The city has foundations and walls of the same dimension made up of followers (tribes and apostles) of God and Jesus.  Rev. 7:4 has 144,000 people that were sealed from the tribes of Israel, God must be referring to people, because 12  x 1,000 (generations) = 12,000

Exodus 20:5-6

[5] Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

[6] And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

The Lord thy God said go forth and multiply and be fruitful:

http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/k/kjv/kjv-idx?type=simple&format=Long&q1=multiply&restrict=All&size=First+100

God is referring to a quantity of souls:

12,000 x 12,000 = 144,000,000 = One hundred and 44 million, a great multitude - see Rev. 7:4-9.

Multiply 144,000,000 x 12,000 = 1,728,000,000,000

1,728,000,000,000 is 1 trillion, seven hundred twenty-eight billion people… a new Heaven and a new Earth!

http://jimloy.com/math/billion.htm

 (NIV)

17

KJV: And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.

the wall = 144 cubits and is also the measurement of a man who is the angel.

A cubit is 18”

The distance between thumb and another finger to the elbow on an average person measures about 24 digits or 6 palms or 1½ feet. This is about 45 cm or 18 inches.

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cubits

144 divided by 18 = 8 cubits

The city of David, Jerusalem, also had a wall built around it by King David’s son, Solomon.

18

KJV:  And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.

The building of the wall is almost the same as verse 11 above:

([11] Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;)

“Jasper” also appears in Rev. 4:3 where the 4 living beasts are described.

http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/k/kjv/kjv-idx?type=simple&format=Long&q1=jasper&restrict=All&size=First+100

the building of the wall was of “jasper”

“pure gold” (figuratively) Anything or anyone considered to be very valuable - From  http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/gold

http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/k/kjv/kjv-idx?type=simple&format=Long&q1=pure+gold&restrict=All&size=First+100

Men can be made more valuable than gold by being refined in the fire of God’s judgment and testing:

Job 23:10

KJV: [10] But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

NIV:  10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will  come forth as gold. (NIV)

“like unto clear glass” See Rev. 15:2.

19

KJV:  And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;

Verse 14 above indicates the foundations have the names of the 12 apostles on them:

KJV:  [14] And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Tobit 13:16-17

[16] For Jerusalem shall be built up with sapphires and emeralds, and precious stone: thy walls and towers and battlements with pure gold.

[17] And the streets of Jerusalem shall be paved with beryl and carbuncle and stones of Ophir.

http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/k/kjv/kjv-idx?type=DIV2&byte=3762918

20

KJV:  The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.

The 12 precious stones in verses 19 and 20 represent one stone for each apostle in verse 14.  These new stones are like the breastplate of Aaron in the book of Exodus when Moses built the first church under God’s command:

Exodus 28:15-21

[15] And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning work; after the work of the ephod thou shalt make it; of gold, of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, and of fine twined linen, shalt thou make it.
[16] Foursquare it shall be being doubled; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof.
[17] And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row.
[18] And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.
[19] And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst.
[20] And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper: they shall be set in gold in their inclosings.
[21] And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes.

Exodus 28:29
And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the LORD continually.

Jesus said, Build up treasures in Heaven:

21

KJV:  And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

“the word pearl has become a metaphor for something rare, fine, and admirable”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl

Matthew 13:44
[ The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl ] "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

Matthew 13:45-46 (KJV)

[45] Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
[46] Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

The hidden treasure is the Book of Revelation revealed or the signal of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. I sold everything to become a missionary for God and his new field. David is to be summoned to leave his field and also work for God.

Luke 17:36

KJV:  Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.

David works “in the field” due to the nature of his catering business where he makes deliveries in his white van.

The 12 gates with the twelve pearls symbolize the 12 disciples as they left everything they had, even family, to become a follower and student of Jesus Christ.

sev·er·al  (svr-l, svrl)

[2] The same was in the beginning with God.
[3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
[4] In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
[5] And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
[6] There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
[7] The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
[8] He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

Matt.5
